KHUTZEYMATEEN
PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
Welcome to the valley of the grizzlies
DESTINATION KHUTZEYMATEEN
Picture this; you wake in the morning to the gentle sounds of water lapping against the floating lodge. The fresh morning air fills your lungs as a lazy sun creeps over the horizon, filling sky with glorious shades. You take a sip your coffee as you walk the deck scanning the tree line for the first signs of wildlife. There are no roads, towns, campsites for as far as the eye can see. This time is yours to be free of distraction and embrace the natural world. Together, we will experience all the Khutzeymateen has to offer on covered boats, with plenty of room to move and adjust as the activity unfolds around you.
You might hardly believe it, but you're here. This is the Khutzeymateen Valley, Canada’s only Grizzly Bear Sanctuary and a pristine wilderness that spans a whopping 39,000-hectares. The valley supports a thriving and ancient trinity of grizzly bears, spawning salmon, and massive Sitka spruce trees. Home to an estimated 50+ grizzlies who depend on the biodiversity of this valley. From its sheltered estuary and open fjord to its rich sedge fields and dense rainforest, its become a haven for numerous species. Attracting wolves, migrating geese, ducks, harbour seals, beaver and otters, as well as orca and humpback whales.
Not a professional photographer? Or looking to bring a companion that isn't a photographer... not a problem! We are focused on creating an inclusive environment that is dedicated to delivering profound visual experiences for each and every guest we're travelling with. And if that means you just want to sit and be present, we want you to experience the beauty of the Khutzeymateen, in YOUR own way.

Your adventure begins in the bustling hamlet of Prince Rupert, BC, Canada. The ferry will bring you from the airport island into Prince Rupert at the doors of your hotel. After check in, feel free to peruse the harbour shops or just kick back and rest. You will have a chance to meet your entire group (location TBA) before the adventure begins.
DAY 1
Continental breakfast is available from 6am onward, and we will meet in the lobby with all our gear at 7am. Private taxis will take us down to the docks for 7:30 am departure by vessel. A quick check in & room assignment at the floating lodge and we're off to visit to the magnificent inlet and all the wonderful surprises nature provides along the way.
DAY 2-4
The next 3 days are filled with wildlife adventure, day & night. Evenings around the campfire or relax in the sauna. Perhaps a quick kayak or SUP. A perfectly prepared breakfast by our Chef to start each morning and we'll be on the water looking for our first encounter. On the way, we could be delayed by orcas, humpback, otters or any other number of creatures (oh darn).
DAY 5
Chef will have our final breakfast prepared and as we bid a farewell to our floating haven. We load our gear onto the vessel for transport back to Prince Rupert.
